A pixie and a shiner

March 5, 2008 by rlgelber

We have tried on several occasions to take Carly to a real hairdresser to get her hair cut.  Every time she screams bloody murder, like her fingernails are being ripped out.  So the poor child has only had haircuts by yours truly.

This weekend my friend Patsy and I decided we’d give it a go.  With much bribery of chocolate, I think it turned out pretty well.  I got the bangs just a WEE bit too short, but all in all I’m pleased.  At least it’s not hanging in her face anymore.

Riley got her hair cut too, but I had it done by a professional.  I wish we’d gone as short with hers as we did Carly’s.  I may take her back and get a little more chopped off.

She got her first black eye this weekend at Little Gym.  She was walking along with her head turned the other way and walked right into the parallel bars.  She whacked it hard, but she was a trooper.  I’m proud of her.

Ouch!

Because they’re cute.

The full effect.

And just a bonus. There’s so many toys, the poor dog barely has room to lay her head.

Can you find me?

What sports car are you?

February 18, 2008 by rlgelber

I’m a Dodge Viper!

You’re all about raw power. You’re tough, you’re loud, and you don’t take crap from anyone. Leave finesse to the other cars, the ones eating your dust.

Take the Which Sports Car Are You? quiz.

The popular argument at our house these days…

January 4, 2008 by rlgelber

Carly has found her voice as she’s turned two.  She also has an unbelievable Southern accent.  She specifically loves to argue with her sister.  Whenever we see an animal on our journeys, I immediately point it out.  Yesterday on our way home, we saw four deer in someone’s yard.

Me:  “Look girls, there, see those four deer?”

R:  “Oh wow mommy.   They are guhls.”

C:  “No, they are boh-ees.”

R:  “No, they are GUUHLS.”

C:  “NO! BOH-EES.”

R:  “NOOOO!  GUUUUUHLS.”

Me:  “Ok, girls.  How about this 2 are girls and 2 are boys.”

R:  “Yeah pwobly, 3 are guhls.”

C:  “Awight, 2 are boh-ees.”

More of Carly’s Southern twang:

toys = toh-ees

help = hay-elp

milk = mee-ilk

She must get it from her teachers at school, I sure don’t have an accent THAT strong.

Yes, I’ve been away.  I’ve missed you internet.  I have many pictures and stories to share with you from the holidays.

You’ll be seeing many new pics from me as I got this puppy for my birthday!!  Thank you Sweetie.

I’m also going to take an online photography class with a friend.  I’ll share my assignments with you.

Cheers and Happy New Year!

Update on Riley, Thankgsiving/Christmas, Kroger price scan guarantee

November 27, 2007 by rlgelber

How’s that for an obscure title?

Riley is doing so much better after her tonsilectomy, adenoidectomy, and tubes.  It looks like her throat is almost completely healed.  She’s eating better than she ever has and we’re back to rationing the pink milk, yogurt, and popsicles.  She does have some residual hoarseness that concerns me a little, but I think she’s on the mend.

We drove to Ohio for Thanksgiving and held an early Christmas with Dan’s family.  We all got some great loot.  It was also nice to see all the aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews that we haven’t seen in almost a year.  Thanks Grandma and Grandpa for your hospitality.  We had such a great time!

Now for my bargain of the season…  I was grocery shopping at a Super Kroger this past weekend.  This one has 4 whole aisles of appliances, cooking tools, table accessories and china.  Someone on my Christmas list requested a Crock Pot.  I certainly wasn’t planning on buying it at Kroger because I figured WalMart or Sam’s Club would be much cheaper.  I noticed that they had several varieties and the display showed that the 5 quart with the warm feature was on sale for $29.99.  At the checkout counter, it was the last item to be scanned.  I normally don’t monitor the price of the things I buy, but since it was the last and it was almost time to confirm my debit transaction, I was watching.  It rang as $39.99 minus the $4.00 for my Kroger card.  I mentioned to the cashier that the display showed that it was on sale for $29.99.  In reality, I probably would’ve gone ahead and paid the extra $6.00 for it, but he called over the customer service manager.  She’d lugged it back to the display, came back, filled in a little card, then took off the $39.99.  I said, “Aren’t you gonna re-scan it for the $29.99.”  She said “Nope, you’re all set.”  I was thinking to myself, surely I did not just get this crock pot for free.  When I got back to my car I looked at my receipt and beside the -39.99 was the text “Kroger Price Scan Guarantee.”  Score!!  If it scans wrong, you get it free.

That sure made my day.  I *heart* Kroger!

My crappiest blog month ever

November 6, 2007 by rlgelber

I posted exactly 4 times in October.  That’s pitiful.

Work has been insanely busy.  I’ve been traveling.  I’ll be back in November, promise.

Tomorrow is Riley’s surgery.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

In the meantime, go buy this for your kid(s).  It’s the cutest idea ever!!  My friend Joy sent one for Riley and Carly.  Thanks Joy!!

I’ve, once again, been a shitty blogger.  There’s lots going on at work and I just don’t have a lot of time.

Riley went for her 3 year well check and had fluid behind her ears.  She was on 10 days of antibiotics.  We saw the ENT for a hearing check.  She has a bit of hearing loss in her left ear.  He thinks it will resolve.  He also said if she has another infection in the next 6-8 weeks we’d do another set of tubes and adenoid and tonsils removal.  Guess what!  Two days after the ENT proclaimed her ears clear, she has raging bilateral ear infections again.  So we’re scheduled for surgery on Nov 7.

Carly is great.  She has such a great personality.  She’s also starting to take up for herself where her big sister is concerned.  Riley doesn’t like that one little bit.

Animal Mountain

October 4, 2007 by rlgelber

I mentioned a couple of days ago how much Riley loves to play animals.  I talked her into a nap today by promising a round of Animal Mountain outside.

Her favorite animal.  She calls it “That pig”.

The cows in the thade.

“That pig” loves to swim in the wiver.

Hello Hippo.  Hello Elephant.

Take a nap animals.  Everybody lay down.  You too trees.

About 15 seconds elapse…  Get up animals.  It’s time to wake up.

Time for the thtage (stage).

The Carnivores.

Mosh pit.

Elephant being stalked by the tiger.

Mathgic pony giving “That pig” a ride into the box.
